Report your move
Are you going to move within The Hague or to The Hague? Report your change of address to the municipality online. Are you moving from The Hague to another municipality in the Netherlands? Then you don't report your change of adress here. You only have to report the move to the municipality in your new place of residence.
Conditions
- you are moving within The Hague or you are moving to The Hague from another municipality in the Netherlands
- you are 16 years or older
- are you moving from The Hague to another municipality in the Netherlands? Then you don't report your change of adress here. You only have to report the move to the municipality in your new place of residence.
Are you reporting the move for somebody else? This is allowed if:
- you are married/registered partners and you are living at 1 address. You are moving to the same address
- you are reporting the move for an underage child. You are the parent, guardian or caregiver of the child
- you are reporting the move for an adult child. Your child is living at your address and is moving to the same address
- you are reporting the move for a cohabitating parent. Your parent is living at your address and is moving to the same address
- you are the director of a care facility for people living in a care facility
- you are the guardian of a person who has been placed under guardianship
- you have been authorised
How does it work?
Report your move on time. You can do this a maximum of 4 weeks before or at the latest 5 days after your move. You can arrange this online or in writing. You will automatically be deregistered from your old address.
Report your move online
You can arrange your change of address online. You need the following information:
- Your DigiD login information.
- Proof of your new address, for example a signed purchase deed or rental contract. If you are going to move in with somebody, then you need permission from the main occupant. Read more on the page Proof of Occupancy.

Report your move in writing
You do not have DigiD and you would like to report your move in writing? Print out the moving form, complete it and then send it to:

Do not forget to enclose the required documents:
- a copy of a valid passport, driving licence or identity card
- a copy of a proof of your new address, for example a signed purchase deed or rental contract. If you are going to move in with somebody, then you need permission from the main occupant (see the page Proof of occupancy)

How long does it take?
- Are you reporting the change in address between 4 weeks before the move and no more than 5 working days after your move? The municipality will register you on the date you indicated.
- Are you reporting the change in address later? Then the municipality will register you on the date it received your change of address.
Because it is extremely busy, it can take longer than usual to process your change in address. Anticipate that it can take up to 14 days before your new address is registered in the system. Would you like to see if the change has been made? Log in to MijnDenHaag using your DigiD. There you can see your personal data as they are recorded in the Personal Records Database (BRP).
Good to know
- Are you moving from The Hague to another municipality in the Netherlands? Then you only need to report the move to your new municipality. You do not need to deregister from The Hague.
- Are you moving within The Hague? Are you not yet able to be registered at your new address? Then you can provide a mailing address. You can do this at City Hall Spui or the Leyweg City Office.
- Is the person whose address you are using as a mailing address going to move? Change your mailing address. Read more about the mailing address.
- The municipality will report your change of address to authorities which need this information to carry out their legal duties, such as the Dutch Tax and Customs Administration (Belastingdienst), pension funds, Sociale Verzekeringsbank (SVB) and health insurance companies. You can go to the website of the Dutch government to see which organisations these are.
- You can make a safe copy of your identity document with your mobile telephone or tablet using the KopieID app. Read more on the website of the Dutch government.
- When you report your move online, the confirmation email could end up in your spam folder. Look out for this. You can go to MijnOverheid.nl to check whether your move has been registered.
Arrange these things for your move
For your move to or within The Hague you may also need to arrange the following:
- Affordable housing permit: Are you going to rent a residential property in The Hague from a private landlord with a rent of € 1,015.31 or less (rate in 2023)? Then you need an affordable housing permit.
- Apply for a parking permit or change a parking permit. You can apply for a permit only once you are registerd at your new address.
- Apply for or change welfare benefits (in Dutch)
- Afvalpas for waste depots: if the previous resident did not leave the Afvalpas behind
- Apply for waste tax refund
- All-in-one building permit: if you are going to renovate or rebuild
- Apply for an Ooievaarspas reduction card
- Ground lease: do you have ground lease? Report your move to the ground lease department (afdeling Erfpacht). This does not happen automatically. Send an email to erfpachtadministratie@denhaag.nl.
- Library membership: when you move to The Hague, you can get free membership to The Hague Public Library. You will get a welcome letter from the municipality when you report your move. The letter contains a voucher for the library.
