Apply for the Ooievaarspas (reduction card)

The Ooievaarspas is a free pass for people with a low income. With the pass, you can do fun things for free or at a discount. For example, playing sports, going to a concert, or taking a course. Everyone in the family receives their own pass.

  1. Gather documents

    You will need a few documents for your application. Begin link: Check what is needed to apply, end link. .

  2. Apply

    Fill out the online application form for yourself or for children under 18. Children aged 18 and over apply for an Ooievaarspas themselves.

  3. The dicision besluit

    Within 8 weeks of your application, you will receive a letter with the decision. This states whether or not you will receive the Ooievaarspas.

  4. Share photo

    If you receive the Ooievaarspas, you will receive a letter within 4 weeks explaining how to share a photo.

  • You live in The Hague.
  • Your income is not higher than 150% of the Begin link: bijstandsnorm, end link.  (benefit norm).
  • If you have a family, your capital (for example, money in your bank or savings account) is not higher than € 16,000.
  • If you are a single person, your capital (for example, money in your bank or savings account) is not higher than € 8,000.
  • Your bank statements from the previous month. For example, if you are applying for the pass in April, then you need to send in the bank statements from March.
  • A copy of the proof of identity for your partner if you have a partner.

The municipality reviews your bank statement from the previous month to verify whether you are eligible for the Ooievaarspas. A bank statement for that month is required for this. Example: are you applying for the card in June? Then please submit the bank statement for May. Ensure that the following details are clearly visible on the statement:

  • name
  • address
  • account number
  • balance
  • amounts credited and debited

A copy of your passport, driver’s license, identity card, or residence permit. Also that of your partner, if you have one.

Lost or damaged card: reapply

Have you lost your Ooievaarspas or is it broken? Apply for a new card. Your old card will then be blocked.

Will my Ooievaarspas be automatically renewed?

You will receive a letter before 1 November stating whether your Ooievaarspas will be extended for the following year. You did not receive any notification before 1 November? And would you like to extend the Ooievaarspas? Submit a (new) Begin link: application, end link. .

How can I change my name or photo?

The pass will use the name which is registered in the municipality’s Personal Records Database (BRP). If your personal information is not correct, you should first have your Begin link: personal data changed in the BRP, end link. . Once they have been corrected, you can apply for a new pass.

I live in Leidschendam, Voorburg, or Rijswijk: can I apply for an Ooievaarspas?

Yes, that is possible. In that case, you do not apply for the pass at the Municipality of The Hague, but at your own municipality.
