Voting from abroad for the European Parliament elections

The Netherlands will vote for the European Parliament elections on 6 June 2024. Dutch citizens living abroad are also able to vote. In order to do so they must be registered as a voter with the Municipality of The Hague.

On the page Begin link: Register as a Dutch voter abroad, end link. you can read about how to register. Make sure the municipality receives your complete application on time. Your application must be received by Thursday, 25 April 2024 by 23.59 hrs. (CET)

Are you already registered as a Dutch voter abroad? The municipality will send you your postal voting slip as of mid-March. You will receive the election ballot approximately 4 weeks before election day (around 9 May 2024). To be able to vote you need a Dutch identity document which is valid on 23 April 2024.

If you live in a different EU member state

If you live in another European Union member state, you can choose:

  • You can vote for a Dutch candidate for the European Parliament. You have to be registered as a voter at the Municipality of The Hague.
  • Or you can vote for a candidate of the EU country where you are living. You have to register this choice in the country where you are living. You are then not allowed to also vote for a Dutch candidate.

EU countries share their voter registration information with each other in order to prevent residents from voting more than once. Are you registered as a voter in your country of residence? Then the Municipality of The Hague will have to delete your voter registration. You will then not be able to vote for a Dutch candidate.
