Make an appointment at the municipality

The municipality works by appointment.

Let op!

It is extremely busy. Many people would like like to apply for travel documents - a Dutch passport or identity card. This is why the municipality temporarily changed the opening hours of its offices in June and July.

Despite these measures it is possible that you will have to wait longer than you are used to. The municipality therefore asks you to postpone applications which are not urgent. Is your document still valid? Please postpone your application until September 2021, if possible. We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.

In order to serve The Hague’s more than 500,000 inhabitants, the municipality is working by appointment. The municipality can then reserve time for you and you can be certain that you will be served quickly.

Rules for appointment

There are a few basic rules for making an appointment. The municipality urgently asks you to:

  • arrive on time for your appointment
  • take all of the required documents listed for the product you are requesting
  • cancel your appointment as quickly as possible if you suddenly are not able to come
  • comply with all of the protection measures against the coronavirus.

Make an appointment

You can make an appointment on the website. First visit the page of the product you are requesting and then click on the appointment button on that page.

Emergency desk

Are you unable to make an appointment on time through the website? Then you can phone tel. 14070. The call agents will check whether it is necessary for you to get an earlier appointment.

This can be the case if:

  • products need to be registered within a legal deadline (for example, registering a birth)
  • there are financial, legal or social consequences connected to the application (such as consequences for your income or benefits, a fine or the identification requirement in order to arrange care)
  • the appointment is urgent, you are not able to apply on your own and you are unable to get assistance from a family member, friend or neighbour.




  • You will get an earlier appointment for an urgent appointment.
  • Would you like your application to be processed more quickly? You can request an expedited application procedure for various products. This is called an expedited procedure. The way this procedure works can be found in the information about the product. There are extra fees for an expedited procedure.

Collecting a document without an appointment

You do not have to make an appointment to pick up your new Dutch passport, identity card or driving licence. You can collect your document by showing your pick-up receipt and valid form of identification at the city office where you applied for it.

Cancel or reschedule an appointment

Would you like to cancel your appointment? You can do this using the link in the confirmation email you received when you made the appointment. If you would like to reschedule the appointment, you can contact the municipality.

Payment methods

You can pay in cash or use a bank card at City Hall Spui. You can only use a bank card at the Leyweg City Office. Unfortunately it is not possible to pay with a credit card.
