The Hague - Death certificate

Death certificate

A death certificate provides written proof of a person's death. This is recorded in the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages. You can request a copy or (international) extract of this certificate.

    Copy or international extract

    Copy

A copy of the death certificate comes with a stamp and a signature from the Registry Office. This is also known as a certified, official or authenticated copy.

A copy of the death certificate is only available in Dutch. Do you need a copy of the death certificate in another language? Then you will need to have it translated yourself by a sworn translator.

    International extract

An international extract of the death certificate is available in other languages. The extract contains only the personal details which can be found in the death certificate. A multiple-language extract comes in Dutch, English, French, German, Spanish, Greek, Italian, Portuguese, Turkish and Serbo-Croatian. You can choose this option when you submit your application.
