Legal advisors: help with laws and rules
Do you have questions about taxes, benefits or allowances)? Or problems with your employer or landlord? Make an appointment with the municipality’s legal advisors (sociaal raadslieden).
Legal advisors provide advice on everything to do with laws and regulations. A consultation is free and confidential and lasts approximately a half an hour. If more time is needed, the legal advisor will make a new follow-up appointment for you. Legal advisors are registered in the professional register for social-legal service providers.
What do the legal advisors do?
- answer difficult questions about legislation and regulations
- mediate with problems with (government) organisations and agencies. If necessary, they will call the organisation to discuss your problem.
- write letters to (government) agencies and organisations
- file a complaint or letter of objection
- give information or advice on subjects such as housing, work, education and income
Do you disagree with a decision taken by the Tax Administration (Belastingdienst)? Then first contact the Belastingdienst. Do you still not agree? Then make an appointment at the legal advisors. They will help you look for a good solution.

Take this information to the appointment
- current details about your income. Such as a benefit statement, salary slip or allowances from the Dutch Tax and Customs Administration.
- any documents which are related your question or problem
- your valid identity document
- your DigiD. You need a DigiD to arrange many of your (government) affairs. You can apply for a DigiD online.
