Proof of occupancy

When reporting your move you will need to submit a proof of occupancy (bewijs van bewoning). This way the municipality will know that somebody is registered at the correct address.

The type of proof of occupancy you will need depends on your living situation:

If you purchase a property

  1. (a copy of) the purchase deed with in any case the pages containing your name, address and signature, or
  2. the provisional purchase agreement with a key statement which states that the buyer can have earlier access to the property, or
  3. (a copy of) the deed of transfer, or
  4. (a copy of) the mortgage deed.

If you rent from a housing association, letting agency, estate agency or property management company

  1. (a copy of) the signed rental contract, or
  2. permission from the municipality to rent social housing.

If you rent on the commercial market

  1. (a copy of) the signed rental contract, or
  2. permission from the municipality to rent social housing, and
  3. (a copy of) a valid form of identification for the main occupant or owner.

Additional documents (such as a copy of the landlord’s proof of ownership) could be requested as proof.

If you sublet or are moving in with somebody

  1. a signed written declaration by the main occupant or owner, and
  2. (a copy of) a valid form of identification for the main occupant or owner, and
  3. (a copy of) the rental contract or purchase deed for the residence.

* If there are multiple owners or main occupants, it is sufficient to get permission from 1 of them.
