Europe in The Hague
Residents of The Hague are invited to join the discussion on the future of The Hague in the European Union (EU). You can help to decide your future. Even if you do not know that much about the European Union, your opinion is valuable.
Europe and the Municipality of The Hague have a lot to do with each other. The municipality implements 70 percent of the European laws and regulations. This is why it is important that the municipality has influence on the laws being made in Brussels. Examples of subjects include:
- clean drinking water
- allocation of shelters for refugees
- safety
- international (train) transportation
- labour conditions
Knowledge
Within Europe cities share know-how with each other on the challenges they are facing. In this way the municipality is learning from other European cities. And it does not have to constantly come up with ideas and solutions itself.
Economy
In addition Europe is highly important for The Hague’s economy. There are 29 international organisations located in The Hague. One example is Europol. These organisations are responsible for more than 4,250 jobs. And for € 1.1 billion spent in the city.
Working together on Europe
The municipality is participating in different European projects. The municipality gets European funding and subsidies (money and allowances) for different projects in The Hague. Together with the city the municipality is working on themes which are important for residents.
The municipality is working on a few important Hague goals the coming years:

The municipality’s Team Europe is working daily to:
- bring local and international organisations in contact with each other
- influence European policy and legislation
- represent the interests of The Hague in Europe
- make The Hague visible in Brussels
- strengthen the bonds with other European cities
- apply for European subsidies and funding for projects in the city
In addition Team Europe also organises different international visits and events.
