Report lost or injured animals

Have you found an animal? Depending on what kind of animal it is, you can contact 1 of the animal welfare organisations.

The municipality is legally responsible for taking care of 'lost pets' for 14 days. If the owner does not pick up the pet within this period, the municipality then transfers the care of the animal to the animal shelter where it is being kept.

The municipality has made arrangements with different organisations for the transport and care of animals.

Found an animal?

If you find:

  • dogs and cats
  • rodents, rabbits and birds (wild or captive birds)

Report it to Dierenambulance Den Haag (The Hague Animal Rescue Service)
Telephone: (070) 328 28 28
Website: Dierenambulance Den Haag

Also:

  • sick and injured dogs and cats
  • injured birds
  • other house pets such as ferrets
  • animals exposed to freezing temperatures
  • dead animals

You can report them to the Dierenambulance Den Haag.

The Animal Rescue Service helps animals in distress - whether they are trapped, wounded, sick, deserted or neglected. Transportation is provided day and night - 24 hours a day, 365 days per year - not just in emergencies, but also if an animal has to be transported to the vet or has died.

Dead animals in the water

If you find a dead animal in the water, contact the municipality. Or report this online using the button below. Type in 'Dieren en hondenpoep'. You can then choose between 'Dode dieren in water' (Dead animals in the water) or 'Dode dieren op straat' (Dead animals on the street). Do not touch dead animals and avoid coming into contact with the water. Keep your pets away from water contaminated with botulism.

Animals infected with botulism

Have you seen a sick bird with a stretched neck or droopy wings in or by the water? This bird could be infected with botulism. Call the Dierenambulance Den Haag. It will collect the bird and bring it to be treated at Vogelasiel de Wulp. This way infected aquatic birds have a chance to survive.

Preventing stray cats

The municipality has contracted the Dierenambulance Den Haag to prevent groups of stray cats in the city. This agency carries out the following tasks:

  • examines reports of nuisance by stray cats
  • picks up stray cats
  • for stray cats which are adopted from the shelter: registration (microchip) and castration or sterilisation
