Report pests and vermin

Have you spotted a problem with pests and vermin such as rats, wasps or oak processionary caterpillars in the outdoor space? Read below whether you can report this to the municipality.

How does it work?

When can I report a problem to the municipality?

You can only make a report to the municipality if you are bothered by pests and vermin in the public space, such as on the street or in a park.

When is it not possible to make a report to the municipality?

You cannot make a report to the municipality if you have a problem with pests and vermin in your home, (back) garden or courtyard.

If you have a problem with pests and vermin in your home, you have 2 options:

  • Are you renting your home from a housing corporation? Then report the problem to the housing corporation.
  • Do you own your home or are you renting your home from a private landlord? Then contact a pest control service listed on the website of the Nederlandse Vereniging Plaagdiermanagement Bedrijven.

Which insects and animals can be reported on this page?

  • brown-tail moth caterpillars (bastaardsatijnrupsen)
  • oak processionary caterpillars (eikenprocessierupsen)
  • rats (ratten)
  • wasps (wespen)

Which insects and animals cannot be reported on this page?

  • bees (these are not considered pests)
  • cockroaches
  • moles
  • mice

How long does it take?

The municipality will follow up on reports of pests and vermin usually within 3 working days.

Good to know

  • Even if you have seen only 1 rat it is important to report this. A single rat does not necessarily mean there is a problem. But it could be a sign that there is a larger group of rats in the neighbourhood. For example, due to a problem with litter.
