Zonnewijzer: online permit check for solar panels
Do you want to install solar panels on your roof? If so, use the online Zonnewijzer to check whether you need to apply for a permit. The Zonnewijzer can give you advice and tips for your application.
You usually do not need a permit to place solar panels on your roof. However, there are certain situations when a permit is required. This may be the case if your building has protected status (historic monument). It also matters where on the roof you would like to place them. Check first whether you need to apply for a permit.
You can do the permit check in the Zonnewijzer. Does it appear that you need a permit for your roof? In the Zonnewijzer you can immediately apply for a permit in the national Omgevingsloket (OLO). You will also get advice on what sorts of documents you need to submit with your application.

Good to know
- Do you want to install solar panels on your building facade? Or on the ground, scaffolding, or a rack structure in your garden? Then you will always need an all-in-one building permit.
- Solar panels go together nicely with a green roof. The coolness of the green roof increases the yield of the solar panels. You do not need an all-in-one building permit for green roofs. However, there are a few rules for a green roof. Read more about making your roof more sustainable (in Dutch).
