Parking a trailer, camper or caravan on the street

You are not permitted to park a trailer, camper, caravan or other long vehicle on the street for longer than 3 days in a row. This is stipulated in the General Municipal Ordinance (APV, Article 5.6) for The Hague.

It makes no difference if you move the trailer, camper or caravan to a different spot within the municipality every day. The same rules apply to a:

  • mobile home
  • camper van
  • warehouse trolley
  • forklift
  • similar vehicle

Parking permit for large vehicle not always valid

Is your car longer than 6 metres or higher than 2.40 metres? Or do you drive a camper? Then you are not always allowed use your parking permit to park.  

You are only allowed to park a vehicle which is longer than 6 metres in certain streets. This parking ban is not in effect from Monday to Friday, from 7.00 to 18.00 hrs. Do you have a vehicle which is longer than 6 metres or higher than 2.4 metres? Then you are not allowed to park in such a manner that it causes a disturbance. For example, that it blocks the view or that there is loud noise or large amounts of exhaust.

If you ignore the parking bans, you could get a fine. The municipality can also force you to remove the vehicle from the road via a court order. Or that you arrange for the vehicle to be taken off the road at your own cost. In these cases you will get a warning letter beforehand except for in urgent situations.

Do I have to pay for parking for a trailer, camper or caravan?

You do not have to pay to park a trailer or a caravan. A camper is a motor vehicle and you are required to pay to park it.

Report an abandoned vehicle

Has a trailer, caravan or other vehicle been left standing in your street? You can Begin link: report this to the municipality, end link. . You can also contact the municipality by phoning tel. 14070.

After 3 days: fine and/or request to remove your vehicle

You are not allowed to park your trailer, camper or caravan on the street for longer than 3 days in a row. The municipality has Begin external link: designated spots(External link), end external link. where you are allowed to leave your trailer, camper or caravan up to 1 month. Or you can park the trailer, camper or caravan on private property. For example, in a driveway, in a garage or in a storage facility.

Did you park your trailer, camper or caravan on the street for longer than 3 days in a row? Then you could get a fine. The municipality can also tow the vehicle away. All costs will be charged to the owner. In this case you will get a warning letter beforehand, except in emergency cases.

If the trailer, camper or caravan does not have a number plate, then the municipality will try to trace the owner by publishing an official notice on Begin external link: overheid.nl(External link), end external link.. If there is no response to the notice, the municipality will remove the trailer, camper or caravan.

Trailer gone

Has your trailer disappeared and you did not receive a letter from the municipality? Look first at Begin external link: overheid.nl(External link), end external link.. Getting your trailer back

The municipality will store a trailer, camper or caravan it has removed from the street for a maximum of 13 weeks. After that it will be destroyed. To get your trailer back, you can Begin link: contact the municipality, end link. . You will have to pay to get your trailer back plus all of the costs for towing and storing it.

Can I park my trailer, camper or caravan somewhere for a longer time?
