Valid Dutch identity document for Dutch voters abroad

Would you like to register or have you already registered and would you like to vote in future elections? You must send a copy of a valid identity document together with your vote. You will also need this document if you authorise someone to vote on your behalf. Or if you will cast a vote in the Netherlands yourself using a voter card.

A Dutch identity document can be

  • a valid Dutch passport

You are permitted to hide your citizen service number (BSN), passport number and passport photo on the copy and to write ‘COPY’ on it. Make sure that you surname, signature, date of birth and expiry date are readable.
