Getting married in The Hague: locations and fees
The Hague has 3 locations where you can get married or enter into a registered partnership. Normally you pay a fee for a ceremony at a municipal location but certain time slots are available for a free ceremony. You can also choose to get married at a designated location.
Getting married at a municipal location
Would you like to get married or enter into a registered partnership? The municipality has 3 wedding locations. The ceremony lasts a maximum of 45 minutes. This block of time lasts from the moment the wedding couple enters the room until the couple is congratulated. For a free or simplified wedding the ceremony lasts 10 minutes.
About the location
The wedding hall on the Spui offers an enchanting atmosphere. There is a reception room in a similar design.

- The wedding hall has space for 80 people.
- You will get 5 parking cards. You will then be allowed to park close to the location.
- You can bring and play your own music.
- You are permitted to livestream the ceremony for the people who are not able to attend. You need to arrange this yourself.
- The room is customised for people who are deaf and hard of hearing.

About the location
The Groenmarkt wedding hall is the former city hall of the municipality. You and your partner can say ‘I do’ in this 16th-century building. The reception room is the oldest room in the building: the old aldermen’s hall or ‘vierschaar’.

Simplified or free civil ceremony
You can arrange a simplified or free wedding or registered partnership at the Centrum wedding hall. You will then have a modest ceremony lasting 10 minutes. The free or simplified ceremony is popular. Book a time slot well in advance.
Times:
- Monday at 9.30 and 10.00 hrs.
- Tuesday at 9.00, 9.30, 10.00, 10.30, 11.00 and 11.30 hrs.
- People who may attend: maximum of 10 people. For example: the wedding couple, the civil registrar, 2 to 4 witnesses, 2 extra guests if desired and a photographer.
- Fees: € 164.10 (rate in 2023)
The civil registrar will not give a speech during a simplified ceremony. The civil registrar will also not contact you beforehand. You will not get any parking cards and you will not be able to play any music.
- Times: Monday at 9.00 and 9.15 hrs.
- People who may attend: maximum of 10 people. For example: the wedding couple, the civil registrar, 2 to 4 witnesses, 2 extra guests if desired and a photographer.
- Fees: free

Choose your own wedding venue
Would you like to get married at another location? Often you can get married at a non-municipal location. We call this a ‘designated location’. Read more on the page Get married at a designated location .
Reschedule or cancel
Do you want to reschedule or cancel your wedding? In certain cases you will have to pay to do this. Send an email to trouwen@denhaag.nl. Include your personal information and the reference number (2 letters, 2 numbers) which you received in an email after you registered your intended marriage or registered partnership. Include a copy of your identification and bank card. The fees for rescheduling a wedding are € 164.15 (in 2023).
Good to know
- Would you like to get married or enter into a partnership? Then you first need to Register an intended marriage or registered partnership at the municipality. You can go to this page to see which wedding dates are available.
- When you reserve your wedding location at a municipal counter you will need to pay right away. When you make a reservation online, you will receive an invoice by email.
- You must be at the wedding location 15 minutes before the ceremony.
Rules at the wedding locations
There are a number of rules at the municipal wedding locations:
- You may not eat and drink at the locations.
- Pets are not permitted inside. Guide dogs are allowed.
- It is not permitted to throw confetti or rice or something similar and to blow bubbles. You are also not allowed to light firecrackers.
- The municipality advises against releasing doves at wedding ceremonies. This can put the welfare of these animals at risk.
