Getting to The Hague's beaches

Choose the fastest and wisest way of travelling to The Hague's coast. You can get to the beach most quickly by public transportation, bike or scooter. Are you planning to drive? Make use of attractive deals for parking. Look at the fastest routes to Scheveningen, Duindorp and Kijkduin.

  • Look at the various ways of getting to the Zwarte Pad, Kurhaus and Noordboulevard (northern section of the boulevard).

    By tram

    From Den Haag Hollands Spoor (HS) station:

    • Take Tram 1 in the direction of Scheveningen Noord.

    • Get off at 1 of the following stops: Badhuiskade, Scheveningseslag/Beelden aan Zee, Kurhaus or Zwarte Pad.

    From The Hague's Central Station (CS) and Den Haag Hollands Spoor (HS) station:

    • Take Tram 9 in the direction of Scheveningen Noord.

    • Get off at the Kurhaus or Zwarte Pad stop.

    By bus

    From Voorburg station and Den Haag Laan van NOI station:

    • Take Bus 23 in the direction of Scheveningen Noord.
    • Get off at the Kurhaus or Zwarte Pad stop.

    By bicycle or scooter

    You can cycle to the beach using the safe and clearly marked cycling routes.

    • You can park your bike for free at a guarded Biesieklette facility. There are also free unguarded facilities.

    • Get to the beach quickly and easily by renting a bike or scooter. There are designated parking spaces for shared scooters.

    By car

    On busy days it is often difficult to find a parking spot at the beach. If you are still planning to drive, you can save time and money by using Park + Beach.

    • Park + Beach: reserve a parking space in the city centre for € 5 per day. Park in the Q-Park-garages: Malieveld, CS New Babylon or Laakhaven-HS. And continue your journey to the beach on Tram 1 or 9 or on a HTM bicycle for € 1 per person. You can also rent a shared scooter at your own expense. Are you driving into the city from the A12? Then it is easiest to get to the CS New Babylon garage. It is fastest to use the Malieveld garage from the A44 and the Laakhaven-HS garage from the Rotterdamsebaan.
    • Park + Bike: reserve a parking space at P+B Duindigt and cycle to the beach on a rental bicycle from Haagsche Stadsfiets.

    • Do you still want to park at the beach? You can park in a parking garage. Look at an overview on the website of APCOA Parking Scheveningen or Interparking. Otherwise you can park on the Strandweg or at the Noordelijk Havenhoofd car park. You need to pay for on-street parking in the residential areas. You can park there a maximum of 60 to 120 minutes.
    • Would you like to use a disabled parking space? Look at the map to see where these are located at the beach.

    By boat

    The Willemsvaart offers different kinds of boat trips and tours. To get to the beach you disembark at the docking station on the Haringkade. From there it is a 10-minute walk to the beach. Look for more information at www.willemsvaart.nl.

    By motorcycle

    Are you coming by motorcycle? There are 2 special parking areas for motorcycles. Parking for motorcycles is free:

    • on the Strandweg from the Scheveningseslag
    • between the Adriaan Maasplein and the Strandweg

    In addition you can park your motorcycle for a small fee in a Biesieklette facility. Look for the locations at www.biesieklette.nl.

  • Look at the various ways of getting to the Middenboulevard (middle section of the boulevard), Noordelijk Havenhoofd (northern side of the harbour inlet) and the Sportstrand (sports beach).

    By tram

    From Den Haag Hollands Spoor (HS) station:

    • Take Tram 1 in the direction of Scheveningen Noord.

    • Get off at the Badhuiskade or Scheveningseslag/Beelden aan Zee stop.

    Also from Den Haag Hollands Spoor (HS) station:

    • Take Tram 11 in the direction of Scheveningen Haven.
    • Get off at the beach at the Strandweg stop.

    By bicycle or scooter

      • Get off at the Markenseplein stop.
      • Walk to the beach in 10 minutes through the Westduinpark nature area.

      By bus

      From The Hague's Central Station (CS):

      • Take Bus 28 in the direction of Den Haag Zuiderstrand.
      • Get off at the Norfolk stop.

      By bicycle

      • Take Bus 24 in the direction of Den Haag Kijkduin.

      • Get off at the Kijkduin Strand stop.

      From Den Haag Moerwijk station:

      • Take Bus 26 in the direction of Den Haag Kijkduin.

      • Get off at the Kijkduin Strand stop.

      By bicycle

      Getting to the beach with a disability

      People with a physical disability can easily get to The Hague's beaches.

      • All of the wheelchair adapted stops and disabled parking spots can be found on the map of www.ongehinderd.nl/denhaag.

        Look at the accessibility of The Hague's trams and buses on the website of HTM.

      • The Hague's beaches have a number of spots where a (regio) taxi can drop you off. Read more or reserve AV 070.
      • You can hire (electric) beach wheelchairs for a ride on the beach at the Biesieklette facilities on the Strandweg in Scheveningen. Or borrow the ScoutCrawler. You then use your own wheelchair in this mobility aid which has caterpillar tracks.
