Register children adopted in the Netherlands

If you have adopted a child in the Netherlands, then you need to register him with the municipality. The adopted child will then be entered in the Personal Records Database (BRP).

Your adopted child was born in The Hague

Was your adopted child born in the Municipality of The Hague and are you already registered in the Personal Records Database (BRP)? The Municipality of The Hague will be informed of the adoption via the court. The municipality will process the court ruling in the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriage and will add a later statement of adoption to the birth certificate of your adopted child.

Your adopted child was not born in The Hague

First register your adopted child at your address in the Personal Records Database (BRP). Is the adoption ruling definite? Then the municipality in which your child was born will add a later statement of adoption to the birth certificate. A copy of this birth certificate will be sent to the Municipality of The Hague. The information will be processed in the BRP.

Would you like to know how you can register your adopted child? The Department of Public Service counter at City Hall Spui and the Leyweg City Office can assist you. Make an appointment to do this.

  • There are no fees for registration in the BRP.
  • A copy of the birth certificate with the statement of the adoption costs € 16.60 (rate in 2024) excluding postage charges.

Up to 4 weeks after receiving the final ruling on the adoption.
