Legalise signature
Sometimes you must have a signature on a document checked (legalised). You can do this at a municipal counter. Make an appointment for this.

The municipality will legalise your signature
You need proof that the signature on a document is truly yours. For example, because you:
- want to send an important document to a foreign country
- want to arrange an inheritance in a foreign country
- want to sponsor a visitor from abroad
A valid form of identification
A passport, identity card, driving licence or foreign nationals document.
The document with the signature(s) you want to have legalised
You are allowed to legalise more than 1 document during your appointment.
Legalise signature
- Legalisation of signature
- € 17.70
You pay per signature and per person.
You can have your signature at the bottom of a document legalised at the municipality. This is how the municipality proves that the signature is authentic (real). It does not say anything about the contents of the document.
This depends on your situation:
- Are you requesting a legalised signature to sponsor a visitor from abroad? Then the legalised signature is valid for 6 months.
- Are you requesting a legalised signature to arrange an inheritance in a foreign country? Or to send an important document to a foreign country? The validity of the legalised signature depends on the authority which is requesting it. You can ask the authority how long the legalised signature is valid.
You can have your signature legalised in any municipality in the Netherlands. Not necessarily in the municipality where you are living.
Look for more information on NetherlandsWorldwide. You might need to fill in a proof of sponsorship form or proof of private accommodation form. Afterwards you can have your signature legalised at the municipality.
