Collection of bulky waste and garden waste

Bulky household waste and large garden waste such as tree trimmings and branches are not allowed to be discarded in the regular household waste. You need to drop it off at a garbage and recycling station. Are you unable to do this yourself? Make an appointment to have it collected for free.

The municipality is seeing that many residents are busy clearing out their homes. There are many more appointments being made through this page. Urgent request: is it taking a long time to make an appointment? Please wait and try again later. Thank you.

Some items are still usable. You can bring them to a charity shop (kringloopwinkel).

If you leave your rubbish next to the container, you could get a fine from the municipality.

What will be collected?

The municipality collects bulky waste and large garden waste for free. Bulky waste is household waste which does not fit in a container, mini container (kliko) or garbage bag. Or rubbish which is too heavy. There are 3 types:

  • Large garden waste which does not fit in the organic waste (GFT) container. For example, tree trimmings and branches.
  • Flammable waste such as couches, chairs, cupboards, wooden planks or mattresses.
  • Metal objects such as a washing machine, television, drying rack or bicycle.

Exceptions

  • Other rules apply to construction and demolition waste such as rubble, old sanitary equipment and plasterboard. You can drop off this waste at a garbage and recycling station or pay a fee to have it collected. You need to make a separate appointment for this.
  • Waste which you need to take to a garbage and recycling station yourself. Examples include domestic chemical waste (KCA) such as energy-saving light bulbs, batteries, leftover paint and liquid drain cleaner, garden timber edging, gas canisters, fire extinguishers, turf/sod or stones. You may not dispose of these types of waste as bulky waste. If you do, you can get a fine of at least € 141.

    Make or cancel an appointment

    • You can make an appointment with or without DigiD. Is the collection address different from your own address? Then opt to make an appointment without DigiD.
    • Read the rules before you make an appointment to have bulky waste and garden waste collected.

    Make an appointment

          Reschedule or cancel the appointment

You can reschedule or cancel an appointment up to 1 day in advance. Call the municipality on 14070 before 10.00 hrs. It is not possible to cancel on the day of the appointment itself. The trucks are then already out on the road.

Rules for bulky waste and garden waste

Would you like to have bulky waste or garden waste collected for free? This is possible only if you are a private individual (not a company). You first need to make an appointment with the municipality. Bear in mind the following rules.

Where and when do you put waste outside?

          • Put out your bulky waste and garden waste by 7.45 hrs. at the latest. You may also place it outside as of 22.00 hrs. on the evening before the collection day.
          • Place the bulky waste on the sidewalk in front of your home. Is this not possible? Then place it at another spot which the garbage truck can easily reach. Indicate this spot when you make the appointment.
          • Do not place your waste next to (underground) rubbish containers.
          • You are responsible for the bulky waste or garden waste which you put outside until it has been picked up.
          • Did you put the bulky waste or garden waste out improperly? Then you could get a fine.

How do you put out the waste?

Make sure that your waste can be taken away safely:

          • Tie loose boards, carpeting and branches together in bundles of no more than 1.5 metres long.
          • Put iron and metal out separately. This will be collected separately. Indicate that you are getting rid of iron or metal when you make your appointment.
          • Make sure that there are no nails or other sharp objects sticking out. Remove nails or hammer them down flat.
          • Tape over television screens, monitors and glass in doors to prevent glass splinters.
          • Are you getting rid of a bicycle or baby buggy as bulky waste? Hang a sign on them with the text ‘ophalen grofvuil’.
          • Tree trunks can have a maximum diameter of 20 centimetres.

                Waste not collected?

Did you make an appointment and was your bulky waste or garden waste not collected by 17.00 hrs.? Or do you see bulky waste or large garden waste lying on the street? Report this to the municipality using the form Report a problem. The municipality will address the problem within 3 working days.

                Good to know

Reusable goods can be taken to a recycled goods shop (kringloopwinkel) or repair café. For example, functioning televisions, clothing or furniture. Some charity shops have a collection service. Look at allekringloopwinkels.nl. Or have the items repaired, for example at a repair café.
