The beaches in Scheveningen and Kijkduin are being awarded the highly-coveted Blue Flag again for the fourth year in a row. This is an international distinction for clean and safe beaches and marinas. The Blue Flag was raised on 18 May.
The Blue Flag is a certification by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) that a beach or marina meets its stringent standards. The international jury for the Blue Flag by the FEE in Denmark this year awarded 183 Blue Flags in the Netherlands.
The locations are awarded the Blue Flag based on compliance with 32 criteria covering environmental education and information, water quality, environmental management, and safety and services. The Blue Flag is awarded for one season at a time.
Businesses and managers in Kijkduin and Scheveningen are proud of the distinction. They see the Blue Flag as recognition for the quality of the beaches. The Blue Flag is also a reward for the efforts of all parties involved in keeping the beaches safe and clean, from police and municipal enforcers to beach restaurant owners and water sports clubs.
