The new bicycle paths on the narrow sections of the Javastraat and Laan van Meerdervoort were officially opened on 10 May. The Hague is working to improve the bicycle routes in the city and just completed the project to redesign the 2 streets.

The Laan van Meerdervoort-Javastraat cycle path has become a smooth and safe connecting route, a so-called 'star bike route'. Cyclists can now bike in both directions on the narrow sections of the Laan van Meerdervoort and Javastraat.

The plans to redesign these 2 streets were drawn up in consultation with residents, businesses and interested parties in the neighbourhood. The plans called for creating a new vision for the street, eliminating 1 lane of vehicular traffic. This freed up the space needed for a dedicated cycle path towards Kijkduin while keeping nearly all of the parking spaces on the street. In addition, this narrow portion of the streets also got a (wider) bicycle lane for cyclists riding towards the Raamweg, the sewer system was replaced and it was repaved and got new street lighting.

The entire project is complete now that the line markings have been painted at the intersection of the Laan van Meerdervoort and Anna Paulownastraat. The Javastraat project was already completed in the summer of 2016.
