Electoral college elections for non-residents

The elections for the members of the electoral college for non-residents will be held at the same time as the elections for the members of the Provinciale Staten (Provincial Council). And at the same time as the elections for the members of the electoral colleges for the Caribbean Netherlands. The year in which the elections will be held for the first time is not yet known. It depends on when the Dutch parliament adopts the draft legislation for the electoral college for non-residents of the Netherlands.

You will be informed once the date of the first electoral college election is known.

The electoral college elections are indirect elections. The members of the electoral college for non-residents also vote in the elections for the members of the Eerste Kamer (Senate). They do this together with the members of the Provincial Council and the members of the electoral colleges for Caribbean Netherlands. This gives Dutch voters abroad influence over the composition of the Eerste Kamer. Once the draft legislation is passed, you can also become a candidate for the electoral college for non-residents. The conditions for this are that you are a Dutch voter aged 18 years or older and you live abroad.

  • You need to register 1 time to be able to vote in the electoral college elections. Please note: you still need to register even if you have registered for the Tweede Kamer elections and/or the European Parliament elections.
