1st BRP registration when coming from abroad with residence permit (you do not have a BSN)

• You have proof of lawful residence. This can be:

  • a valid Dutch permanent residence document
  • the residence endorsement sticker from the IND in your passport
  • the temporary regular residence permit sticker (MVV)
  • authorisation by the IND (Entrance and Residence procedure, TEV)
  • the invitation by the IND to pick up the residence permit.
• You will be living in The Hague for 4 months or longer.
• You have not previously been registered in the Netherlands.
• You do not yet have a Begin link: citizen service number , end link. (BSN).

Do you want to backdate your registration? This can be done on the date you made the appointment. Even if the appointment is later.

You then have:

• made an appointment for a 1st registration or to register again (resettling)
• made the appointment after you came to live in the Netherlands
• a copy of the appointment confirmation with you (you will receive this by email. Print it or show it on your telephone, tablet or laptop. Please note! It must be clear to see when you made the appointment)

• A Begin link: valid form of identification, end link. (this may not be a driving licence).
• A proof of lawful residence (see Begin link: Conditions, end link. ).
• A Begin link: proof of occupancy, end link. .
• All family members who would like to register need to attend the appointment. This includes babies, young children and older family members.

If you were born, married or divorced abroad, also take the following documents to the appointment:

• Your birth certificate
• If applicable: the birth certificates of your partner and/or your children
• If applicable: your marriage certificate or certificate of civil partnership
• If applicable: divorce papers
• If applicable: adoption papers and/or a death certificate for your partner or child(ren)

These documents are not required for registration. Nevertheless take them with you to your appointment. The municipality will review these documents. If they are in order, the information will be registered in the BRP.

Sometimes your certificate or document needs to be legalised and/or translated. (The translation is done by somebody who is allowed to translate official documents.) Bring your documents to the Department of Public Service counter at the Begin link: Segbroek district office, end link. .

If you:

• are a recognised scientific researcher,
• fall under the Begin link: highly-skilled migrant scheme, end link. of the Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND),
• or have a Begin link: ‘privileged’ status, end link. in the Netherlands,

you need to make an appointment at Begin external link: The Hague International Centre(External link), end external link..

Your registration will usually be processed in the BRP within 4 weeks. You will receive a confirmation of your registration with an overview of your registered information and your citizen service number (BSN) by post.

• Have your birth certificate, marriage certificate, divorce papers, adoption certificate(s) or other important documents not (yet) been registered in the BRP? Bring the documents to your appointment. If you do not yet have the documents, you can submit them at a later moment at an appointment.
