Getting married in The Hague: locations and fees

The Hague has 3 locations where you can get married or enter into a registered partnership. You usually need to pay a fee to get married at a municipal location although certain time slots are free of charge. You can also choose to get married at a free-choice venue or self-designated spot.

Getting married at a municipal location

Would you like to get married or enter into a registered partnership? The municipality has 3 wedding locations. The session (ceremony) lasts a maximum of 45 minutes. This is from the moment the wedding couple enters the room until the guests are invited to congratulate the couple.

    The wedding hall on the Spui offers an enchanting atmosphere. The room is adorned with a special wall screen. There is a reception room in a similar design.

    • There is space in the wedding hall for 80 people.
    • There are 5 parking spots.
    • You can bring and play your own music.
    • The room is customised for people who are deaf and hard of hearing.

    Due to the coronavirus a maximum of 25 people are allowed at the ceremony. This includes the wedding couple, witnesses and a photographer. This is to make sure that everybody can sit at a distance of 1.5 metres from one another. Nobody will be allowed to stand. You are permitted to livestream the ceremony for the people who are not able to attend. You need to arrange this yourself.

  • About the location

    Trouwlocatie Groenmarkt is the former city hall of the municipality. You and your partner can say ‘I do’ in this 16th-century building. The reception room is the oldest room in the building: the old aldermen’s hall or 'vierschaar'.

Simplified or free civil ceremony

You can arrange a simplified or free wedding or registered partnership at Trouwlocatie Centrum. You will then have a modest ceremony lasting 10 minutes. You often need to wait a few months before a time slot is available.

    • Times

      • Monday at 9.30 and 10.00 hrs.
      • Tuesday at 9.00, 9.30, 10.00, 10.30, 11.00 and 11.30 hrs.
    • People who may attend: the wedding couple, the civil registrar, 2 to 4 witnesses, 2 extra guests if desired and a photographer.
    • Fees: € 148.30 in 2020.

    The civil registrar will not give a speech during a simplified ceremony. You will not get a parking spot and you will not be able to play any music.

    • Times: Monday at 9.00 and 9.15 hrs.
    • People who may attend: the wedding couple, the civil registrar, 2 to 4 witnesses and a photographer if desired.
    • Fees: free

    The civil registrar will not give a speech during a free ceremony. You will not get a parking spot and you will not be able to play any music.

Rules at the wedding locations

There are a number of rules for the municipal wedding locations:

  • You may not eat and drink at the locations.
  • Pets are not permitted inside. Guide dogs are allowed.
  • It is not permitted to throw confetti or rice or something similar and to blow bubbles. You are also not allowed to light firecrackers.
  • The municipality advises against releasing doves at wedding ceremonies. This can put the welfare of these animals at risk.
