The Hague - Swimming certification

Swimming certification

In the period preceding the swimming certification exams, children will be tested on various parts of the exam during the swimming lessons. If they do well on the tests, they will be allowed to take the certification exam.

Under the Zwem-ABC method children learn 4 different types of strokes: simple backstroke, breast stroke, freestyle and back crawl. In addition they learn different way of going into the water, swimming underwater, and other skills to be able to survive unexpected situations. Below you will find the requirements of the Zwem-ABC method for each certificate. Swimming wearing clothing is part of the swimming certification.

    After getting the Zwem-ABC certificate

The Zwem-ABC method forms the basis for good swimming instruction. Safety in the water only really comes through practice. Keep swimming regularly with your child even after he gets the Zwem-ABC certificate. Look at the opening hours at the swimming pools for recreational swimming and lap swimming.

After getting the Zwem-ABC certificate your child can decide to continue towards a swimming skills diploma. For this you can contact a swimming club or school.

    Quality of swimming instruction

The swimming instructors at the municipality all hold the Zwem-ABC licence, so the quality of the swimming lessons is always high. You can read more about it on the website of the Nationale Raad Zwemveiligheid.
