The Work Service Points (Servicepunten Arbeid) in the neighbourhoods of Laak, Escamp and the Schilderswijk were able to place 26 young people in jobs at beach restaurants in The Hague.

The beach restaurants have been struggling this summer with a shortage of personnel. By organising a 'speed meet' the municipality was able to find them motivated employees.

Active approach

Staff workers at the Work Service Points actively approached young people whose profile fit well with the work at the beach restaurants. This initiative dovetails with the goal of the Work Service Points to coach young people between the ages of 18 and 27 years who are having difficulty finding work. There was a big turnout of 50 candidates at the speed meet also thanks to partnerships with organisations in the neighbourhood such as Stichting To-the-Point, MJG, Zebra Welzijn and Mooi.

Servicepunten Arbeid

The Work Service Points give the municipality a physical presence in Hague neighbourhoods with the highest youth unemployment. The municipality, in close cooperation with partners in the city, wants to use this neighbourhood approach to tackle youth unemployment in The Hague. The programme has already helped a large number of young people go back to school or find work. They can also get assistance with problems such as debt, difficult family situations or in developing their skills and knowledge. .
