Veluweplein: work on cycle path

Published: 12 July 2021Modified: 13 July 2021

The municipality will be working from 12 July to 24 September 2021 to make the cycle path on the Veluweplein safer. This will affect the accessibility of the area.

Let op!
The work on the Veluweplein, which was scheduled to begin on 12 July, has been postponed. We will announce the new starting date as soon as it is known.

The cycle path on the Veluweplein, between the Schalk Burgerstraat and Zuiderpark, will be made safer. The Veluweplein is a busy spot. For cyclists the route via the Veluweplain is the shortest and fastest connection between Escamp and the downtown area. The Veluweplein will become part of the Wateringse Veld star bike route. This route connects the downtown area with Transvaal and Wateringse Veld.

What is going to happen

  1. A 2-way cycle path will be made between the Schalk Burgerstraat and the entrance to Zuiderpark (3).
  2. The connection between the Schalk Burgerstraat and the Hoefkade will be adapted. The crossing for cyclists from the Hoefkade to the Schalk Burgerstraat will also be improved.
  3. The entrance to Zuiderpark will get new cycle paths. There will be a safer and easier access via the Mr. P. Droogleever Fortuynweg.
  4. Parking spots will be eliminated to create space for the new cycle path.

New trees will be planted once the project is finished. New traffic lights will be installed and the road will get new paving.

Inconvenience and accessibility

Vehicular traffic will experience some inconvenience due to the project. You are advised to take a different route. For example via the Erasmusweg, Loevesteinlaan and Vreeswijkstraat. You can follow the diversion from the Hoefkade (direction De La Reyweg-Schaarsbergenstraat-Soestdijkseplein). The neighbourhood will remain accessible to emergency service vehicles.

Cyclists and pedestrians

The Veluweplein will remain in use for cyclists and pedestrians. If necessary, they will be directed past the worked site in a safe way.

Vehicular traffic

Vehicles will usually be able to use the Veluweplein. If a diversion is needed, road signs will be put in place.

Public transport

Bus 51 will continue operating via the Veluweplein during the project. The bus stops will remain in use but the bus will sometimes have a different route between the stops. More information can be found at

You will be able to use most of the parking spaces during the project.

Household waste

The underground rubbish containers in front of the Polsmaak supermarket and Remix bar dancing will temporarily be placed on the opposite side of the street.

The municipality will do everything within its power to ensure safety during the project. Nevertheless work sites remain dangerous spots. You are advised to warn children about this danger and to keep them away from the work site.
