Utrechtsebaan (A12) closed during roadworks

Published: 13 January 2022Modified: 14 January 2022

The Utrechtsebaan (A12) will be closed in both directions from 22.00 hrs. on Friday, 14 January to 5.00 hrs. on Monday, 17 January. The roadworks will take place between the intersection with the Zuid Hollandlaan (S101) and Entrance and Exit ramp 3 (Bezuidenhout). As of Monday, 17 January the Utrechtsebaan will remain closed in the direction of the Prins Clausplein until May 2022.

During this period you will not be able to use the Utrechtsebaan to drive out of the city. The traffic lanes into the city will for the most part be open. These are the lanes towards Den Haag Centrum and Scheveningen.

Why the roadworks are needed

The asphalt on this part of the Utrechtsebaan is resting on a concrete foundation. This foundation is now about 50 years old and is starting to wear out. The municipality will repair the concrete and replace the asphalt. The sewer system will be fixed up and the central reserve (median) will get a new guardrail. Once this work is done the road should last for many years to come.

Disruptions and measures

Both sides of the Utrechtsebaan will be renovated. Work will first be carried out on the traffic lanes in the direction of The Hague. Cars driving into The Hague will be diverted using the lanes normally intended for traffic driving out of the city. This way The Hague and Scheveningen will remain accessible.

Afterwards the municipality will carry out work on the lanes out of the city, in the direction of the Prins Clausplein. Cars driving in the direction of The Hague and Scheveningen will then already be able to use the renovated lanes.

Traffic driving out of the city will not be able to use the Utrechtsebaan during the entire project and will be diverted.

Entrance and Exit ramp 3 (Bezuidenhout) will for the most part remain open during the roadworks. However, during a number of weekends the traffic lanes driving into the city and Entrance and Exit ramp 3 will be closed. Traffic will then be diverted. Traffic disruptions will decrease during the roadworks because Entrance and Exit ramp 2 and Entrance and Exit ramp 3 will open in various phases once the work there has been completed.

Closed in both directions on several weekends

The Utrechtsebaan will be closed in both directions between the Koningskade and Entrance and Exit ramp 3 from 22.00 hrs. on Friday, 14 January to 5.00 hrs. on Monday, 17 January. This means that you will be able to use Exit ramp 3 but Exit ramp 2 will be closed.

There will be 4 other weekends in January and February when the road will be closed in both directions. Entrance and Exit ramp 3 (Bezuidenhout) will also be closed then. Traffic will be diverted. This will happen during the following weekends:

  • 29 and 30 January
  • 5 and 6 February
  • 12 and 13 February
  • 19 and 20 February
