Published: 26 July 2018Modified: 7 August 2018

Temperatures are expected to reach highs of 30 degrees over the coming days. The Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) activated the national heatwave plan on Monday, 23 July as the heat can pose a health risk. The Hague’s Public Health Department (GGD Haaglanden) is providing tips on staying healthy in this hot weather.

GGD Haaglanden is issuing the following tips:

  • Drink enough even if you are not thirsty
  • Reduce the consumption of alcohol
  • Keep yourself cool: stay in the shade and limit physical exertion
  • Keep your home cool: use a fan and awning
  • Take care of each other: keep an eye on elderly people and small children.

Healthy summer

GGD Haaglanden is also giving advice on how to tan yourself sensibly, prevent tick bites and swim in open water. This advice can be found in Dutch on www.ggdhaaglanden.nl.
