Start of campaign ‘First Aid for Loneliness’

The ‘First Aid for Loneliness’ campaign was launched on 8 May 2019. The campaign is meant to raise awareness of how to cope with loneliness.

The municipality is calling on all residents, businesses and organisations in the city to pay attention to their neighbours using the slogan ‘The many faces of loneliness. Who do you know?’. The municipality is using advertising, an animated film, the Dutch website Eerste Hulp bij Eenzaamheid, posters in libraries, Servicepunten XL and 40 Albert Heijn supermarkets.

Neighbourhood approach

A local campaign will start in the Transvaal neighbourhood in mid-June 2019. The message is that a small gesture can save a life. There will be a campaign in Moerwijk in the autumn of 2019. This annual series will be repeated 3 times. In this way the municipality will communicate with the entire city and in neighbourhoods where loneliness is one of the most pressing problems over the coming 4 years.

All together and not alone

The campaign is part of the municipality’s action plan entitled ‘All together and not alone’. More than half of the adult residents of The Hague feel lonely. The municipality does not only want to solve this but also prevent it. The municipality is working together with residents, clubs, professionals and businesses. Combating loneliness is a joint responsibility. Ultimately the idea is that everyone should pay attention to lonely people in their vicinity.
