The new Hague educational and cultural complex on the Spui has been given the name Amare. This is Italian for ‘to love’ as well as ‘by the sea.’ The new name was revealed on 10 October.

As of 2021 Amare will jointly house 4 cultural organisations in The Hague: the Residentie Orkest, the Nederlands Dans Theater, the Royal Conservatoire and The Hague Dance and Music Centre (the current Zuiderstrandtheater). Amare will form the cultural heart of The Hague together with the other cultural organisations on the Spui.

According to Deputy Mayor Robert van Asten (Culture):

'The name Amare is a beautiful name for this cultural complex which will provide a sea of possibilities to all residents of The Hague. The new educational and cultural complex will be a house for the entire city and will invite visitors from outside our city to come inside.'

Amare, which was commissioned by the Municipality of The Hague, will become a centre for performing arts, creative development, outstanding (international) programming and conferences and events. Everybody is welcome to attend a theatre or concert performance, a rehearsal, a lesson, a conference or event or just to stop by for a cup of coffee.
