HS to get new platform tunnel

Published: 30 November 2017Modified: 30 November 2017

The new tunnel from Laak under the rails of the Hollands Spoor (HS) train station will be connected to the existing platform tunnel. The Hoge Waldorpstraat will often be closed on Saturday, 25 November and Sunday, 26 November. Equipment will be delivered and removed at these moments.

Work on 25 and 26 November

During the weekend the new part of the platform tunnel will be pushed into place against the existing part. This will be an important step forward in the construction of a fully additional station entrance for HS.

The number of travellers on this side of the station has increased substantially thanks to the rising number of companies and organisations in Laak. New student housing will also be built here. It is important that the train station is quickly and easily accessible.

Disruption to train traffic

Work will be planned so that it causes as little disruption to train traffic as possible on Saturday, 25 November and Sunday, 26 November. Trains will operate according to their regular schedule as of Monday, 27 November.

Track 6 at the station will not be in use. The timetable has been adapted to this. Plan your trip on www.ns.nl.

Placement of new part

The new part of the platform tunnel was built on the construction site. The construction site is located between the Globe building and the bicycle/pedestrian tunnel. The building project has now reached a point that this part of the tunnel can be pushed into the existing platform tunnel. This will be a technical tour de force.

Removal of railway embankment and rails

Work has begun to remove the railway embankment and rails on the construction site. The tunnel will then be pushed into place. Work will then be carried out to refill the railway embankment and lay the rails again.

View the time-lapse video

Because the process of pushing the new tunnel part into place is slow and takes many hours, a time-lapse video will be made. The video will summarise the entire process in just a few minutes. It will be posted on the websites of ProRail, Bouwbedrijf Heijmans and www.denhaag.nl/rondomhollandsspoor.
