Contact with the municipality through WhatsApp to stop, LiveChat to stay

Published: 28 November 2019Modified: 28 November 2019

As of 1 December you will unfortunately no longer be able to contact the municipality using WhatsApp. You can still contact the municipality’s customer service representatives through LiveChat as well as in other ways.

You have already been able to use the municipality’s live chat service to ask questions. The municipality will continue to offer this service so that you can still ask your questions quickly, easily and safely and receive a reply quickly. For LiveChat and all other ways of contacting the municipality, go to thehague.nl/contact.

The general WhatsApp telephone number for sending a message to the municipality will no longer be available as of 1 December. You may continue to use WhatsApp after 1 December for private messaging with municipal employees.

No WhatsApp for government

The use of WhatsApp by government entities is no longer permitted as of 7 December and the company has adapted its conditions to reflect this. WhatsApp has announced that it will take legal action against government entities which continue to use the messaging platform after this date. This is why the municipality as a government authority will stop using WhatsApp on 1 December. You are, however, permitted to continue to use it for private contact with municipal employees because WhatsApp views this as personal use.
