The beaches in Scheveningen and Kijkduin are being awarded the highly-coveted Blue Flag certification again. This is an international distinction for clean and safe beaches and marinas.

The Blue Flag is an annual certification by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) that a beach or marina meets its stringent standards on cleanliness and safety.

Clean water and safe beach

The Blue Flag stands for a safe beach and clean water. This is important to the 16 million people who visit the beaches of Scheveningen and Kijkduin each year. The beaches comply with the criteria of the Blue Flag programme such as:

  • separate waste collection
  • education
  • water quality
  • surveillance on the beach.

This is why the beaches were again awarded the certificate in 2018 for the 6th year in a row.
