Bells to commemorate First World War

Sunday, 11 November will mark the 100-year anniversary of the end of the First World War. The bell towers in the city will mark this occasion in The Hague, city of peace and justice. Carilloneurs will play special music pieces on the bells of the Grote Kerk, Oude Kerk and Peace Palace from 9 to 11 November.

Friday, 9 November - The Hague, Grote Kerk, 12.00 - 13.00 hrs. and Saturday, 10 November - Scheveningen, Oude Kerk, 11.00 - 12.00 hrs.

City carilloneur Gijsbert Kok will play a number of songs from the era of the First World War and appropriate music by Bach and Elgar.

Saturday, 10 November – The Hague, Peace Palace, 12.00 - 12.45 hrs.

Carilloneur Heleen van der Weel will play a set which includes Beethoven’s ‘Alle Menschen werden Brüder’ and Mr. Andrew Carnegie’s Peace March ‘Peace through Law’ from 1914 by J.J.H. van Rosmalen.

Sunday, 11 November – The Hague, Peace Palace, 13.15 - 13.45 hrs.

Carilloneur Heleen van der Weel will play a set which includes ‘Give Peace a Chance’ by John Lennon and Yoko Ono and the soldier’s song ‘Ik had een wapenbroeder’.
