Apply online for exemption from environmental zone for mopeds

Published: 17 July 2020Modified: 24 July 2020

As of 1 December 2020 petrol-powered mopeds and motorised bikes with an initial registration date in 2010 or earlier will no longer be allowed to drive in The Hague. In certain cases you can get an exemption for your old moped. You can apply for an exemption online as of 1 July 2020.

The Hague will introduce an environmental zone with restrictions for mopeds and motorised bikes (brom- of snorfietsen) with an initial registration date before 2011. An exception will be made for certain cases. You can now apply for an exemption online on www.denhaag.nl.

Exemptions

There are 3 types of exemptions:

  • for four-stroke mopeds or motorised bikes with a vehicle test certificate
  • for people who cannot travel by public transportation or (electric) bicycle because of health reasons
  • for mopeds and motorised bikes 30 years or older (vintage models). You can apply for this exemption as of mid-November 2020.

    Number plate check

Owners can look up their number plate to see if their moped or motorised bike is permitted to drive in The Hague as of 1 December 2020. Go to Environmental zone for old mopeds and motorised bikes. Here you can also find more information about the environmental zone and the exemptions.
