ADO Den Haag makes stadium more sustainable

An enormous battery will be placed next to the ADO stadium. Visitors will be able to charge their electric cars here during football matches. The battery stores energy generated by the solar panels on the roof of the stadium.

Thanks to the battery the energy which is generated locally and sustainably no longer has to be returned to the electricity grid, but can always be used in the area around the stadium. The battery is expected to be put into operation during the first 3 months of 2018.

Charge your electric car during match

A charging area with 20 charging points for electric vehicles will be created at the Cars Jeans Stadium. An increasing number of visitors to the stadium are driving electric cars. The storage system will also supply the electricity for these charging points. Visitors can charge their vehicles during the match with a maximum amount power from sustainable sources.

This fits in completely with the municipality’s policy to promote electric transportation and to further improve the city’s air quality. Extra investments in the electricity grid will not be required thanks to local energy storage.

The municipality is a so-initiator of the battery. The municipality is working together with ADO Den Haag, Stedin, Scholt Energy Control and Alfen.
