Rent a municipal garden plot 2022

You can rent a garden plot at one of the municipality's educational gardening complexes from 15 March to 15 November 2022. You can sign up for this in December 2021.

You can plant your own vegetables, fruit and flowers in a communal garden.

Gardening takes time

All of the plots are 15 square metres and require about 4 hours of work a week. This includes weeding, setting out netting, tying up plants, watering and harvesting. You are obliged to keep the garden tidy.

Registration for 2022

Would you like to rent a garden plot? You can sign up for a garden from 1 December to 31 December 2021.

Register for a garden plot

The fees to rent a municipal garden plot is € 36 in 2022. It is only possible to pay this amount with your bank card during the information evening.

If you would like to rent a municipal garden plot, the following conditions apply:

  • You are 18 years or older and a resident of The Hague.
  • You will be registered only once you have entered all of your information.
  • You are allowed to rent 1 garden per home address.
  • You stick to the rules for garden plots (tuinreglement).
  • You keep the garden tidy. The municipality will check this regularly.

How it works

  • You can sign up for a municipal garden plot for 2022 from 1 to 31 December 2021.
  • You can indicate your 1st and 2nd preference for a garden complex.
  • Did more people sign up for a garden complex than there are gardens available? Then a lottery will be held. This lottery will take place in mid-January 2022.
  • You will get an email from the municipality shortly after the lottery. The email will state whether or not you were selected for a garden. It will also contain more information about the rest of the procedure.
  • You will always receive a confirmation of your registration.
  • The municipality can refuse applicants if there are strong reasons for this.
  • Will a municipal garden plot become available again during the season until 15 May 2022? Then the municipality will first offer it to people who were not selected in the lottery.
