Rent a municipal garden plot 2021

Residents of The Hague can rent a garden plot at one of the school gardening complexes from 15 March to 15 November. Registration for 2021 is closed.

You can plant your own vegetables, fruit and flowers in a communal garden. All of the plots are 15 square metres.

Gardening takes time

Caring for a garden takes time. The garden plots are 15 square metres and require about 4 hours of work a week. This includes weeding, setting out netting, tying up plants, watering and harvesting. You must keep the garden tidy. The municipality will check your work.

Registration for 2021

Would you like to rent a garden? You could sign up for a garden from 1 December to 31 December 2020. Registration for 2021 is closed.

The fee for renting a garden in 2021 is € 35. You can pay this amount only by bank card during the information evening.

If you would like to rent a municipal garden plot, the following conditions apply:

  • You are 18 years or older and a resident of The Hague.
  • You can rent 1 garden per home address.
  • You abide by the rules for garden plots (tuinreglement).

How it works

  • You can sign up for a municipal garden plot for 2021 from 1 to 31 December 2020.
  • You can indicate your 1st and 2nd preference for a garden complex.
  • Did more people sign up for a garden complex than there are gardens available? Then a lottery will be held. This lottery will take place in mid-January 2021.
  • You will get an email from the municipality shortly after the lottery. The email will state whether or not you were selected for a garden. It will also contain more information about the rest of the procedure.
  • You will always receive a confirmation of your registration.
  • The municipality can refuse applicants if there are strong reasons for this.
  • Will a municipal garden plot become available again during the season until 15 May 2021? Then the municipality will first offer it to applicants who were not selected in the lottery.
