Rent a municipal garden plot

Residents of The Hague can rent a garden plot at one of the school gardening complexes from 15 March to 15 November. Registration is now closed.

You can plant your own vegetables, fruit and flowers in a communal garden. All of the plots are 15 square metres.

The municipal garden plots are found in the same location as the educational gardens. Due to the coronavirus the educational gardens are closed until 28 April. Before you head to your garden plot, first read the instructions on the poster by the entrance gate.

Gardening takes time

Caring for a garden takes time. The garden plots are 15 square metres and require about 4 hours of work a week. When you sign up for a garden plot, you are taking on a commitment to maintain the garden and your work will be checked.

Registration for 2021

You can sign up to rent a garden plot in 2021 from 1 December to 31 December 2020. Registration for 2020 is closed.

Fees

The fee to rent a municipal garden plot is € 35 for the 2020 season.

Conditions

If you would like to rent a municipal garden plot, the following conditions apply:

  • You are 18 years or older and a resident of The Hague.
  • You can sign up for 1 garden plot per home address.
  • You abide by the rules for garden plots (tuinreglement). Read the rules before you sign up.
  • When you register you need a valid form of identity and you need to prove that you live at your address (for example, by showing a letter addressed to you).
  • Applicants who were not selected in the lottery will get first priority for municipal garden plots which become available during the season until 15 May 2020 .
