The T.M.C. Asser Instituut is a leading, inter-university research institute operating in the field of international law.

T.M.C. Asser Instituut

The institute’s international community of scholars is engaged in research, postgraduate training and dissemination of knowledge in furtherance of the purposes and principles of international law. Its research covers the domains of public international law, private international law, the law of the European Union, and international and European sports law.

Within this inter-university framework, the University of Amsterdam holds a special position as the T.M.C. Asser Instituut’s governing body. 

To promote and facilitate academic research the institute organises a wide range of (international) academic activities and other events.

The institute develops and delivers postgraduate and executive education in the areas of its different research specialisations (topics include international criminal law, counterterrorism, disarmament and non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, and trade law). These programmes are offered both in The Hague and elsewhere, as standard modules and as specialised tailor-made courses on demand.

The T.M.C. Asser Instituut is:
