Non-governmental organisations (NGOs)

In addition to the large and well-known organisations as the International Criminal Court and the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, The Hague also plays host to a large number of non-governmental organisations.

These NGOs monitor and try to exert influence over the large governmental organisations as well as promote greater awareness in a variety of areas.

Starting an NGO in The Hague

The number of NGOs in the International City of Peace and Justice is growing each year. This is thanks to good relations with the Municipality of The Hague and the attractive business climate.

NGOs such as Oxfam Novib, Save the Children and Cordaid decided to locate to The Hague years ago.

The Municipality of The Hague therefore has created a roadmap for people who would like to start a (new) NGO in The Hague. This step-by-step plan describes what organisations have to do before they move to the city and also once they are here. Information on arranging a visa, fundraising and health insurance can all be found in the ‘NGO Roadmap’.

Here you can download the 2013 Guide to International Organisations in The Hague with extensive information about the NGOs in The Hague.
