Delay in tram line 16 project due to unforeseen circumstances

Building projects are currently being affected by supply chain issues. This is also true for the renewal of tram line 16. The work on the tram tracks and the tram stops will no longer be carried out according to the original planning. The municipality anticipates completing the renewal of tram line 16 in the spring of 2023. It will inform neighbourhood residents and businesses about the work and any possible inconvenience on time.

Alternative routes for trams and buses

  • As of Monday, 20 June 2022 Tram 17 will take over part of the route of the current Tram 16. Tram 17 will operate between Wateringen and the Kunstmuseum. Tram 16 will operate between Wateringen and The Hague's Central Station. The new wide trams will be used on both lines as of Monday, 20 June.
  • Tram 11 will also have an alternative route during the project. Part of the route will no longer be in use. For this portion the HTM will use buses instead.
  • Bus 21, 24 and 28 will take a small diversion around the Kunstmuseum due to the project.

See the website of HTM for the current timetable. Or look at the HTM travel app or on the website of 9292.

Disturbance

The project will cause some disturbance. Residents and businesses along the work area will experience dust and noise. The street will also be dug open during the maintenance work. Traffic will face road closures and it will be busier than usual. The work will be carried out during the day as much as possible to limit any inconvenience. Should work need to be carried out at night, residents will be informed in advance.

The municipality will modify the overhead lines in a few places. This maintenance work will be done at night between 22.00 and 7.00 hrs. This way the neighbourhoods will remain accessible and safe. The work on the overhead lines may cause excessive noise for 1 night. The work will be done using a crane. People living in the neighbourhood will be notified about this.
