Games from Around the World sports event

Games from Around the World (GAW) will be organised by Unity in Diversity on Saturday, 23 June. This time it is about playing games and sports and is open to all ages.

The focus of this sports event is to connect people of different backgrounds while they join together to play games which are widely played around the world. These games include bite-the-cake (koekhappen), dodge ball, football, volleyball, basketball, table tennis, shuffleboard (sjoelen) and more.

The games are meant to remind us of the great times we had playing these games in the past and how these good memories can be carried along to our new homes. All winners will receive a gift voucher.

Why this project?

Beyond having fun, Games from Around the World will encourage better contact between refugees and the community by engaging in activities where language is no barrier. Organisers hope to use this event as a way to assist refugees (especially children) who are finding it difficult to adjust to a new society. Playing games with people from different background can help them better integrate into Dutch society without losing their cultural identity.
