Public school holidays

Look when your child has his school holidays. The Ministry of Education determines the dates for the summer vacation. The school boards decide on the other vacation days.

Below you will find the overview of the school vacations for the Dutch public schools in The Hague. Each school vacation, apart from the summer vacation, is decided in consultation with representatives of the school boards in The Hague. Please note that the school holidays in The Hague do not always coincide with the rest of the region (regio Midden).

Vacations for primary schools (PO) and secondary schools (VO)

The school boards in The Hague have decided on the vacations for the coming 2 school years. You can find these dates in the table below.

Christmas break (Kerstvakantie) 23 December 2019 to 3 January 2020
Spring break (Voorjaarsvakantie) 24 to 28 February 2020
Good Friday 10 April 2020
Easter Monday 13 April 2020
King's Day (Koningsdag) 27 April 2018
Liberation Day 5 May 2020
May vacation (Meivakantie) 27 April to 1 May (for VO) & 27 April to 8 May 2020 (for PO)
Ascension Day (Hemelvaart) 21 May and 22 May (only PO) 2020
Whit Monday (Tweede Pinksterdag) 1 June 2020
Summer vacation 20 July to 28 August 2020

All of the high schools also have an additional 5 days free. Many schools use these days to make the May vacation 2 weeks.
