Non-EU citizens need to apply for a residence permit for a legal stay in the Netherlands if they are planning to stay longer than 4 months.

The Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND) handles all applications for a residence permit. Please be aware that some nationalities need to apply for a provisional residence permit (MVV) before coming to the Netherlands.

Are you coming from outside the EU/EEA or Switzerland to live in The Hague for longer than 4 months? Then you have applied for a residence permit from the Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND) and you need to register in the Municipal Personal Records Database (BRP, formerly the GBA).

BSN

Your BRP (formerly GBA) registration will be processed on the spot and you will receive your citizens service number (BSN) immediately.
