European Association of History Educators, EUROCLIO

EUROCLIO is the European Standing Conference of History Teachers' Associations. It is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) that aims to promote and support the development of history education so that it strengthens peace, stability, democracy and critical thinking.

In 1993 EUROCLIO was officially founded by delegates from 14 countries, representing 18 history teachers’ associations, with support from the Council of Europe.

During the ensuing years EUROCLIO grew rapidly and nowadays represents 63 member organisations from 46 (mostly) European countries and connects 40,000 historians and history educators in primary, secondary education and higher educational institutes. The Secretariat of the organisation is located in The Hague.

Since its foundation EUROCLIO has run several long-term projects in more than 25 European countries, working together with a range of partners: the Council of Europe, the European Union, the OSCE, UNESCO, national and regional governments, universities, and other NGOs.
