The entire Waalsdorperweg is finally open two years after the completion of the Hubertustunnel.
It is now possible to turn onto the Waalsdorperweg from the Raamweg and either drive into Benoordenhout or into the Hubertustunnel. Problems with this access road arose two years ago due to the collapse of an embankment which separates the road from the grounds of Aloysius College and Europol.
According to Deputy Mayor Peter Smit (Transportation), motorists in the city can reach the N14 more quickly now that they can enter the Hubertustunnel from the Waalsdorperweg. Through traffic will no longer have to make use of the Oostduinlaan.
The new access road to the tunnel should also reduce the amount of traffic on the Raamweg, Koningskade, Zuid-Hollandlaan and Benoordenhoutseweg.
Although the access road is now complete, the cycle path alongside it needs to be completed over the next few weeks. Remaining work is scheduled to be completed by March.
