Tram 19 starts up service

Published: 01 July 2010 Modified: 15 July 2011

Starting 1 July Tram 19 will begin service from Leidschendam via Leidschenveen, Ypenburg and Rijswijk to Delft.

Tram 19

Tram 19 is the first HTM tram line which does not go through The Hague’s city centre or along one of the two big train stations (Central Station and Hollands Spoor). It is rather a circle-shaped line around The Hague which connects other public transportation lines.

The tram will depart every 15 minutes and the City Region of Haaglanden (Stadsgewest Haaglanden) expects 16,000 passengers per day. At the moment the tram rides to Delft Tanthof, but by 2012 the line will be extended all the way to the Delft University of Technology (Technopolis in the TU Delft neighbourhood).

Passengers will be able to transfer to more than 20 different city and regional public transportation lines along the route, including at the Delft train station and Ypenburg station. They can also transfer to RandstadRail 3 and 4 and to the Rotterdam metro line E at the RandstadRail-station Leidschenveen. The tram line is expected to provide an economic boost to the Leidsenhage shopping centre.

The line will make partial use of the tracks of Tram 1, 2, 6 and 15 and goes through the Sijtwendetunnel in Leidschendam. The line is 15 kilometres long and has 26 stops. The trip from beginning to end takes 45 minutes in total.
