Most people living in The Hague own a car. And most of the 32 million visitors to The Hague every year come by car. This means that a lot of people are looking for parking spaces in many of the city’s neighbourhoods.
Finding a parking space can sometimes be difficult. As a consequence residents and visitors sometimes park their cars in places where it is not permitted, for example on the pavement or on the corner of the street. Parking in these places may impede the work of the emergency services, such as the fire brigade and ambulances, which are then unable to get to the right address on time. Vehicles which park in the wrong place also block the passage on the pavement for the elderly or the handicapped. Free passage is essential and it may even be of life-saving importance.
There are rules for parking on a public road. Parking is allowed only in the spaces designated for this purpose. You are not allowed to park your car
The minimum fine for contravention of the parking regulations is € 50. Parking illegally in a handicapped space incurs a fine of € 130.
When public order is at stake, for example because your vehicle impedes the passage of the emergency services, the police are entitled to tow away your vehicle. Vehicles can also be towed away if the driver is 'insufficiently fit or unable to drive' or if the car has no (visible) registration plate.
Vehicles that have been towed away can be collected from Melkwegstraat 28 at the Binckhorst industrial terrain. For a map and directions you can download the PDF below. You will be charged € 306 for the towing of your vehicle. Storage of the vehicle costs € 25 a day.
