Use the bike racks around the train stations!

Starting in July 2012 the Municipality of The Hague will again actively enforce the rules for bicycles wrongly parked around the train stations. The Hague’s Central Station, Hollands Spoor and the RandstadRailstation Leidschenveen have been designated as areas where bicycles are allowed to stand only in a bike rack or lock-up.

There are special parking spaces set aside for cargo bikes and mopeds. Warning signs will be placed around the train stations in June so that it’s clear to everyone that bicycles belong in the bike stands.

During the month of June warning labels will be hung on all bicycles wrongly parked around the stations informing people that they need to park their bikes legally. As of mid-June the city will start cracking down on wrongly-parked bikes at Central Station and Hollands Spoor. Starting in July enforcement officers will also start working actively at RandstadRailstation Leidschenveen.

Bicycles which are not parked in the bike stands or in a lock-up will get a green warning label. The owner then has 30 minutes to remove his bicycle or park it in a lock-up or bike stand. If the bicycle is still standing there after 30 minutes, it will be removed and taken to the Fietsdepot Haaglanden.

Bicycles are not allowed to be parked at the train stations longer than seven days in a row. Bicycles which are parked longer than seven days will first get a blue warning label. The owner then has two days to remove his bicycle. If it isn’t removed in time, the bicycle could be taken to the Fietsdepot Haaglanden.

Prevention is better than cure

Cyclists can easily prevent their bicycles from being removed by the municipality by parking them in the guarded lock-up under the station or in the free lock-up next to the station. They’ll also stay dry and safe there.

Bike gone? Fietsdepot Haaglanden!

If the municipality removes a bicycle, it will be taken to the Bicycle Depot Haaglanden at Junostraat 24 in the Binckhorst area. You can check if your bike is in the depot via the website www.fietsdepothaaglanden.nl.

If the bike is in the depot, the owner can get it back by paying € 15 (with a bank card only, not with cash or credit card) to cover the costs of removing the bicycle. The owner must be able to identify himself and prove (for example, by producing the right key) that the bicycle really belongs to him.

Getting there

You can reach the Bicycle Depot Haaglanden using Bus 26 or Bus 30 (Zonweg stop). During the morning and evening rush hour you can also use Tram 10 (Binckhorstlaan stop) to get to the depot. Check the depot's website for the opening hours.
